Kapp: People may function well if their support needs are met. Also people's support needs are broader than just from autism. Leading orgs in the #neurodiversity movement like @autisticadvocacy.org influenced these areas in the DSM-5, due to concerns about recognition of support needs.

Kapp: People with higher support needs, who access supports through community serviced provided by Medicaid like HCBS, we as an autism community should be uniting to protect these services. Autistic #neurodiversity supporters are MORE likely to regard disability as an appropriate term.

I stood up at an empty-chair town hall in my congressional district to talk about just this 4 my own high-support son & everyone in his position. He must hold on to Medicaid and SSI both of which funds his HCBS. With that support he thrives . W/o it the beautiful life he has built will disappear.

Damon Kirsebom was the ONLY Non-Speaker on a panel at the #CALS last week and he could not join in person so we saw a brief video from him but he also attended virtually.
