This shouldn’t have been an issue left to public pressure or cancel culture. There must be tools for the EU to prohibit business activities with russia for all non-essential companies and punishment mechanisms for evaders. With no ifs or buts.

Notable Trump admin recently quietly extended 2 legal bases (emergency declarations) for Russian sanctions for another year & Congress gets a vote. Europe cannot replace the US. It's already providing close to what their populations are willing to support (more would require war economy efforts that would, for example, cost 4x as much for 2x the support)

It could add additional blackmail on top of the US efforts, but that is not very popular

As I understand it: weapons manufacturing is constrained right now, in Europe and also worldwide.

US weapons for Ukraine came largely from existing stock, or 'regular' production for the US military.

Money alone cannot replace that, without the stocks or manufacturing capability to uy from

So, suppose the US was going to deliver 1000 missiles from stock and existing plants. To replace that, Europe cant just buy 1000 missiles. They have to buy a new factory that can pump out 1000 missiles quickly.

So the next 0.7% will buy much less stuff than the first.
