Historically, instability usually favors the right. It is a much, MUCH easier position to get people behind, because hierarchy is human nature, as are in-group dynamics. I honestly can't really think of examples that don't favor the right unless it is reactionary against war.

Tbf the plague (bubonic/septacemic/pneumonic) became endemic in the population - returning in waves most summers - and a horrifying killer for around 300 years - after the initial outbreaks, and the political effects could be seen after the initial outbreaks of that too.

Yes. We didn't pay enough attention to maintaining and healing relationships (and grieving) during and after the pandemic. A 'truth and reconciliation' commission to come together and share experiences and learn could have helped. It will be a long road to be better prepared next time.

There are certainly plenty of stupid people, but the bigger problem is systemic. Schools teach people to be pliant workers, not critical thinkers. Media lies to people with a heavy bias towards the ruling class' interests. Same with politicians. Nobody in power is offering any real solutions.
