🙋🏻♀️ The way this is written it sounds like the scientists are now getting 85%. The way these grants work the university gets a certain % and the investigator who wrote the grant proposal gets the rest. Everyone hates how much overhead the university takes. If the grants were cut, start with that.
Assuming that the grant money remains unchanged - a big assumption - that extra money "going to the scientists" will go to the universities anyways, because the overhead covers the facilities and equipment used for research.
