Went through several months of replacement parts after my new grill/smoker arrived heavily damaged. Finally got all the parts and assembled, went to download the app (the whole reason for buying this product) and…

so my comment won't help with your consumer rage but I CAN RELATE. I don't have a Char-griller (never will bc screw these guys) but I am nearly non-stop infuriated by how absolutely horrible it currently is to be the buyer of almost anything requiring fuel or a power source in order to function.
How maddening. Not sure exactly what features you’re looking for, but I use a basic smoker with Meater Bluetooth/WiFi probes to track temperatures. It doesn’t control the temp, but it monitors long cooks without needing an extra service. I can view the data in both the Meater app and Home Assistant.
Fucking hell. Sorry to hear that. I hope Combustion continues, but we ended up with a gen1 just before gen2 became available. There’s always some annoying risk with this late-stage capitalism tech. Good luck.
Does the app just monitor or does it control temp? Maverick temp probes are absolute gold standard for me if that is what you are looking for. But if it's a controller device, well, Char-Griller kinda makes cheap shit... signed a former Akorn owner (great grill tho)
but this is our second akorn, the first lasted ten years which i think is perfectly fine (and it is still totally useful for making pizzas or steak, it's just too rusty for smoking anymore)
Gotcha, man I don't think any of those temp devices for Kamados really work that well. I have a BGE XL now and tried theirs and it really wasn't that great either. I love the Akorn, have smoked tons of stuff on it and great for pizzas, gave it to a friend and I don't think he has used it once :(
If they don't have a replacement device coming down the line, my thoughts would be that it probably didn't work very well so they scrapped it. If it is on a charcoal smoker, it can be tricky as well, especially their offsets. Akorns are pretty solidly insulated tho.
That sucks. It's possible to rig up your own device to regulate temp. If you're only after temp regulation, a Raspberry Pi or Arduino, a few components & a bit of coding will do it. To add phone monitoring, you'll need server hosting & to build an app. All doable, but will take time & effort

It was a decent app. Weird decision.
My dad had one of those, from a different brand of grill. They revoked that ‘ remote start’ service when someone allegedly started a fire with it.
