I was involved in a license application in EC1; noise/council, fire were very supportive. Old bill kind of were, but on the quiet said they're in a ding dong with the council who get all the business rates, whilst they do "the graft"... so they were blocking licenses to try to get more council cash.
Not the point, but that's the old Lumiere cinema. Was a lovely venue and seemed to have Tardisesque proportions. Closed when they opened the hotel, think they promised they were going to keep it initially, then turned it was turned into a gym
Not been in that bit. I liked that hotel, all 90/00's Philippe Starck and the future is going to cool with a bit of orange here and there and generally decent and fun. Hmmm.
Ps. Not the cinema, the restaurant, Asia de Cuba. The rum sommelier gave me and Vicky the rum menu. I said, I was going to take this, unless there's something you'd recommend. His flicked/slammed the menu to the back page (Β£100's glass) or "if that's too much, this" same routine to the front. ππ
I think it was St Martin's Lane Hotel I used to go to with Katie years ago when our pal ran the members bar out back behind a curtain. Had some funny nights in there.
When I worked at Bridge & Tunnel the most hassle was always from neighbours complaining about the noise. Sav spent an absolute fortune sound proofing the place but it never seemed to satisfy them.
This was just after he'd had to deal with similar re Blue Note in Hoxton Square too.
Yeah it was great, have some very happy memories (and embarrassing pictures) from that time of my life. So much time spent wandering up and down Rivington Street between there and Plastic People back then. Nowhere else could touch them lineup wise.

What cunts.
I hope the neighbours like the stag/hen party puke feast they've got now.
