“It’s called capitalism” 🙄
What a sophomoric, obnoxious, pointless comment.
It is not only practical, but ➡️OBVIOUSLY⬅️ preferable to have a robust capitalistic economy without rabid perverse greed.
How is it obvious? I need someone to explain to me how capitalism doesn't incentivize rabid perverse greed. Capitalism has only worked in this country to the extent it has because in the past we have reigned it in with strong regulations and social welfare reform.
Capitalism *is* the greatest method of capital allocation that society has stumbled across so far, which has been incredibly useful for rapid advancement.
The downside? Way too easy to abuse. We need to replace Extractive Capitalism with Social Capitalism, which won't be easy, but WILL be worth it

So Chomsky is a multi-millionaire who received financial assistance from Jeffrey Epstein - He is also taking a convenient "ivory tower" stance on Ukraine. I take him with a grain of salt these days because I am not sure of his allegiances.
Same dude who said Russia is acting with restraint and moderation in it's war in Ukraine, where they systematically rape women, murder military age men, and steal children, while sending glide bombs into nursing homes... Fuck Noam Chomsky.
It’s an indefensible position to ignore war crimes or brush them away as obnoxiously as Trump/Rubio/Waltz are ardently doing with their Russian war crime white washing. Chomsky is of Ukranian descent. His commentary & perspective usually has been highly critical of U.S. foreign policy in Ukraine.
Not sure if he is “siding” with Russia or simply making observations about super powers that engage in proxy wars. Scortched earth war of attrition is not exactly restraint.
They need to get rid of their useless leaders first…top democrats are complaining that activists want them to confront Trump and fight back….unbelievable. https://youtube.com/shorts/DY7yW...
For those who defend all, or even most, trump's fire hose of changes, you must also realize they're intended to consolidate his maniacal drive for personal wealth and power, in preparation for when he begins to pleasure himself by extorting his personal allies and foes alike! Jan 6th proved that!
The same guy who said that Russian federation had the right to invade Ukraine because the US had lied to the USSR. the US didn't lie to the USSR, The Russian federation is not the USSR. The USSR is dead, though Putler wants to rebuild he Russian Imperial Empire. I have it all in email conversations
This is not a wise man. He lies. He supports despots. He's misinformed and ill-informed and sacrifices human rights for supposed ideology. That's his history.
'Most' is a dangerous word. What about serial killers? Or the destruction unleashed by Putin, the Iranian dictators, Kim jung?
If only (a) his linguistics stood up to scientific investigation, (b) he not make pronouncements about topics in which he has neither an advanced degree nor personal experience, and most importantly (c) that anyone takes him seriously.
Ever live in a communist state? Ever live in authoritarian country? Ever live under Sharia? I have lived under all three, including a few kleptocracies. I don't think you'd enjoy it, and I know that Chomsky wouldn't.
No, but data does. It also amuses me that native speaker intuition based on English and tortured into being applicable to other languages is kinda imperialist, doncha think?
Actually, my specialties are corpus linguistics and second language acquisition.
Well, now that's what sounds like some nazi ass typa piece o' shit, or well sympathizer since y'all centrists are snowflakes that can't take it to be called out.
As hominem is the refuge of those lacking evidence. I refuted his linguistics. I questioned his political wisdom. Why not reply with counter-evidence instead of name-calling?
I suspect that since you don't know left from right that you also don't know ass from elbow, but that's only a suspicion.
Ye tried to say that the lad who has literally participated in programs of social reintegration, and who has helped manually to rebuild regions that were victim to the inner conflict of my country, had no praxis or connection, ye can get the fuck outta here with that crap.
And not only does he have
mediums to know research methodology, but he does also have functional bibliographies.
I ain't gonna argue linguistics 'cus i ain't no linguist nor a person interesed in linguistics.
And before you question the violence thingy, i'm Colombia, Chomsky participated in reconstruction programs in El
Chocó and other regions that are heavily affected by the narco-armies up to this day.
And you also say that he has no relevance when he is easily one of the most recognizable intelectuals of this century, and his activism has helped the representation of multiple minorities such as the palestinian.
Do you realize what you're saying about left, right and center? My left hand is on the left side of my body and my right hand is on the right side of my body. My middle bits are in the middle. Yours too, I expect.
What do you know about me except that I'm a linguist and see Chomsky as a fraud?
It isn't only about money, it's the human ego running wild. Perhaps greed is more about power & influence than it is about money. Is there a word for amassing power & influence?
"Wherefore rejoice? What conquest brings he home? What tributaries follow him? ... You blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things! Oh you hard hearts, you cruel men of Rome.”
-From Julius Caesar by W. Shakespeare-
Stupid is the only word that applies to such people. They aren't evil, they're stupid. It is easy to be "intelligent" when you don't care about anything else but yourself. But for those of us who care, these people are simply stupid, and we should stop admiring them for that tiny bit of intelligence
His manufactured consent book and movie are great and changed my world view. Glad I saw him give a free speech in Vancouver at the beach. Hate his Palestine opinions. He is quite aged now and never see him quoted in the media anymore.
And before people want to jump to say “there are good billionaires!” Actually if they were really “good” they wouldn’t even be a “billionaire” because they would be able to be perfectly content with just being a millionaire.
I've always said that if the billionaires could part with some of their money we wouldn't have a deficit. I don't have a problem with people being rich I have a problem with them hoarding their money while the middle class and poor are suffering.
Exactly! I’ve never had a problem even being a millionaire. But one of the reasons I’ve never actually been able to stand Oprah $3Billion?!? Doesn’t even have kids! And what do most people know what her charity is spent on… building schools in Africa? Sure that is awesome, great.. very much needed!
I know that feels good, but it’s not really true. You could tax every billionaire in the country at 90% and it wouldn’t make much of a dent in the deficit. Their wealth is tied up in companies and assets, they don’t have $100 billion in the bank account or pull $50 billion salaries to tax.
True. Most of the middle-class are up to their eyeballs in debt and thanks to the cost of living high rent and insurance rates hiking up there's no end in sight. The average rate for a decent 1 bedroom in Orlando is between 1600 and 1800 a month. The "homeless' no longer belongs to the poor class.
They have more money than they could ever use in a hundred lifetimes. They're human dragons, sitting on mountains of gold, unable to appreciate it, always hungry for more.
We're not even asking for a lot. All we want is a safe, warm place to live, enough food to eat, a means to get around, and sufficient healthcare to stay healthy.
We tell them that and all they do is figure out how to profit off our efforts to get it
Sometimes I feel like we are back in medieval times where the royals live in luxury while throwing crumbs to us peasants. We really haven't come that far!
They say that right now we're living in worse poverty than the French did before their revolution (I don't know which one that is... don't they have a lot of them? I don't know)
It’s impossible to be a billionaire if you’re not cheating, stealing and enslaving people.
So it’s not “their” money, it’s their plunder.
Something that couldn’t happen if not with the aid and abet of rotten politicians signing laws that guarantee their booty and unaccountability.
I won't judge billionaires because of the Elon Musks of the world. JK Rowling would be a billionaire if she didn't give a lot of her money to charities. And there are plenty of millionaires who don't fall into the cheating and stealing category.
Exactly. It should be considered disgusting to hoard that much money while others go starving. It’s depraved. Billionaire wealth accumulation comes at the expense of workers, taxpayers, or the environment. They are PARASITES.
There are some distinctions. The worst are those who inherited their billions and never give any away. Those who "earned" their billions generally did some good because they created jobs. Those who give much of their wealth away -- beyond just a few very public vanity projects -- are also better.
You should read about Keanu Reeves. I probably spelled that wrong. He literally gives his money away to people that need it just read about him. I can’t think of anybody else that does as much good with their money.
I have. He is often called the nicest man in Hollywood. Plenty of stories and some candid YouTube videos to support that. But he's worth less than half a billion, so he doesn't quite qualify here.
Also, he's Canadian, so no big surprise that he's a nice guy ;-)
Call them Doom Bringers.
It's not just thought, ignorance, or planning. they are actively DOING it.
First I thought Doom Seekers, but they have FOUND Doom, CHOSEN it. Are ACTING, reveling it their part.
I've tried every negative term to describe these monsters and even when I name them every negative term I can think of, it's still not sufficient to describe how disgusting these demons disguised as humans are! I never wanted power. I want the power to stop this insanity now! Makes every day hell!
The love of money is the root of all evil... Just look at all the autocrats -- they spend all their time stuffing their pockets and trying to distract the populace's attention away from it.
Whatever delusion they are suffering from involving their own importance is not being treated by the drugs they’re on - Ketamine, Adderall, Human Growth hormones … etc.
And this is why a government runs society better than private companies.
Capitalism uses $ as the foundational KPI. Governments have additional foundational KPIs, like getting voted back in again (and yes, that is mixed in with $ but also arguments about equity...tho' admittedly not enough)
Chomsky's comments here apply to language, its possibilities, and limitations. Think hard before you use words, Search, think hard, and feel! https://trueman-triola.stories.email/
so many smart people on BSKY here have a gif this is me if i let myself emote, it is a great quote by an equally wise man, thank you for sharing it. I will borrow Da, its a borrow i just will leave this gif of a kitty i know but kitties are hey I"M A Lion! thought so... 🌟🦁✝️🧲
Perfectly describing MUSK, a greedy pig with more money than any other human has ever, looking for more. And Trump, a partially demented under educated con artist the perfect pawn.
America, the dumb.
I think we need to create a new word a blend of capitalism, fascism, and psychosis: Dystopitalism – A blend of dystopia and capitalism, leaning into the nightmarish consequences.
IMO, most of the rich are driven be the desire to be above consequence, probably rooted in some childhood misadventure that was never adequately addressed.
The "evil" is the childishness--lack of maturity--preserved in the adult.
It's scope is no different than that of terminal cancer or leprosy.
To be a humanist is to be empathetic and giving. What we’re witnessing are individuals reaking havoc on the world who lack those basic character traits.
The problem isn't that some people are unspeakable destructive. That has always been the case. The problem is that our society grants 50-odd people around the world sufficient wealth and power to casually affect the whole human race. The problem is hyper-wealth. Seize it and the danger evaporates.
What are the super wealthy 804 billionaires in America afraid of really? Do they realize how destructive their actions really are in their quest to control and manipulate?
I've never met one of them, but I suspect what they most fear is the knowledge of their own unremarkable abilities, and that people will recognize how utterly undeserving they are of their extreme privilege. So they surround themselves with toadies, and finance propaganda to paint themselves gods.
they're not afraid of anything. they don't care about human lives. to really just read the wikipedia page on curtis yarvin's views (billionaires' fav thoughtleader). he peddles in very disturbing ideals. that, and they love ayn rand's "it's not who's going to allow me, but who's going to stop me?"
The problem is that they don’t care. Their pursuit for the more - money/power - has become an all consuming obsession. It’s an illness. A soul eating sickness. They’ll destroy anything and anyone in their way to achieve their unattainable goal.
There used to be a time when corporations did abide by their corporate charters… in terms of giving back to the communities in which they operated through programs and philanthropy. Those days are gone. It’s now about the almighty buck and earnings above all else on Wall Street.
Corporate charters, even if they are followed, are subject to the whims of the wealthy. Not something we should rely upon.
My point is that as long as the profit motive exists, there will be increasing pressure to maximize those profits. At the expense of the world’s health and wellbeing.

My thinking has evolved significantly over the past 35 years.
Absolutely a wise man!
Time for us citizens to stand up and follow the brave examples that went before us in defending against kings, authoritarians, and despots.
Taxing the rich would have been much simpler.
