This act is an attack on women, that's true, but seriously, why do women still change their names upon marriage? I never did. Both my sisters now walk through the world with the last names of men they divorced, who they loathe. One has even remarried but for professional reasons, uses the old name.

Sure, people can & should change their names for valid reasons like that. But the uniformity of women taking the names of the male "bloodline" has always struck me as misogynist. It's not as if married parties randomly choose one another's name as the family name. It's always women who must switch.

For those that think it’s as simple as showing a marriage certificate (with a raised seal) along with a birth certificate, it’s worth noting that not all states recognize that as enough proof. Some states require documentation from Superior Court.
