My mom was in assisted living under Medicaid. She passed 2 years ago, but I keep thinking, if she hadn’t what would I be doing now? I’d have to retire earlier than planned. Less income for me and I wouldn’t be able to afford elder care myself. With no Medicaid in the future what would that leave me?

There are no solutions without Medicaid. 62% of people in nursing homes are on Medicaid. It’s a middle class program.

Without Medicaid most nursing homes go out of business fast even for those who can afford the 125k$ per year.

I’m 73 and worry about this constantly. I can’t do this to my children. I wasn’t able to afford long term health insurance and know, especially with social security at risk, my savings can be depleted in an instant.

Don't feel bad about not getting LTC insurance. It appears to be about as close to worthless as anything. We bought it for my husband, but no one would take it. So I just went to the garage and screamed when what I needed was a bit, just a tiny bit, of help.
Mom bought and it pays 1/10 of the bill.

I can relate to that. My mom has been gone for a long time but I’m grateful my dad didn’t have to go through more than what he already went through. We lost him right after the first covid wave at age 87, he lived a long life.
