BREAKING: The Department of Energy said DOGE firings of nuclear safety officials were non-critical staff. That is not true. In fact, one of the officials who was locked out of his work accounts was Acting Chief of Defense Nuclear Safety James Todd.

Earlier today I wrote an open letter to Elon Musk in response to a post in which he claimed that I am “undermining civilization” and suffering from “generational trauma.” The response I received from so many of you was overwhelming. Thank you for all the kind words of support. The fight continues.

An acorn is not a tree. A seed is not a flower. An egg is not a chicken. An embryo is not a child.

Elon Musk recently posted on his site that another lawyer and I are “undermining civilization.” He goes on to ask if we suffered childhood trauma and concludes by suggesting we are suffering from “generational trauma.” This is my response. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/my-o...

“I will use every tool at my disposal to protect this country from Trump. I will litigate to defend voting rights until there are no cases left to bring. I will speak out against authoritarianism until my last breath. “I will not back down. I will not bow or scrape. I will never obey.”

I appreciate everyone’s messages of support, I’m trying to get through all my mentions but as you can imagine, it’s been a bit of a busy day :) Remember - peaceful civil disobedience, and no kings, no tyrants. Not ever.

Thank you to @maddow.msnbc.com for promoting @bsky.app on air and complimenting it. Her on air support is truly important

Dark Pence is back.

HELL YEAH: In a masterful speech, the Democratic governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker announces not ONLY a balanced budget in his state but alludes to Donald Trump and Elon Musk as being “IDIOTS.” Let me know if you agree with him.

This is fucking incredible.

Hey, I know her! Time to dig out this old meme I made as advice to lawyers about social media.

“Congress wants to cut government but not their own budgets. Elon Musk's 'Dept. of Government Efficiency' wants to slash spending—except on his own gov-funded ventures. If they’re serious about cuts, they should start with their own staff and perks. adamkinzinger.substack.com/p/elon-musks...

Math is hard

What's going on between The Associated Press, the Trump White House and the WHCA? This morning's Reliable Sources is full of my new reporting about the stalemate: cnn.it/4150YQf

So far on this indiscriminate firings with potential catastrophic consequences list (& trying to rehire them back after realizing the error) we have: - Nuclear weapons (NNSA) staff - FAA staff - now USDA bird flu officials What else can we add that I missed? www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

And fully half of it is a humiliating error where they mistake the value of a contract by 1000x confusing 8 million with 8 BILLION

Hey Republicans who “love” fake agency DOGE:

How much is Congress cutting from their $6.5 billion/year budget? Don’t you think congress can operate on say, maybe, $5 Billion? And each congressman has 18 staff, they could operate on say, 14? What about the White House?

👀

Ok that made me laugh

Crockett: "It's just that they're idiots. These are the same guys as it relates to our nuclear stockpile, they're like, 'Oh, wait a minute, we needed those guys? Can we get them back? Oh, we don't know how to.' I don't know how anyone can look at this administration & feel a semblance of confidence"

Could someone place an order for 100 more Jasmine Crocketts for overnight delivery to the Democratic Party thx in advance

They're using fear to bully you into compliance. Fear of losing your job, your savings, your Medicare/medicaid, your rights, your freedom. They're using fear to bully our allies, to break our alliances and promises. What do they have to fear? Nothing so far. That needs to change.

I'm feeling nostalgic for competence.

What a disgrace. Bezos and the newspaper he has destroyed should be grateful that anyone thinks it’s still worthwhile to buy ad space from them. *This* is how democracy dies.

Here’s a description of the rejected ad. Does anyone have the actual copy? It should be disseminated widely.

Last Fall, the Washington Post allowed a right wing group to run a full page ad falsely attacking me for protecting voting rights. Today, Bezos' paper won't accept ads criticizing Elon Musk. Support pro-democracy media. www.democracydocket.com/me-subscribe...

@sanders.senate.gov: "You're looking at enormous power & wealth in the hands of a small number of people who could care less about working class people... They suffer from the addiction of greed. You got $50 billion? Ain't enough. We got to cut SS so I can get a tax break and maybe get $55 billion."

It is important to celebrate the wins when we get them.🥳 President Donald Trump’s administration halted defunding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, after Democracy Forward, on behalf of the city of Baltimore and a nonprofit, filed a lawsuit. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

This weekend I joined Senator Patty Murray in demanding an immediate briefing from Secretary Wright about his ill informed firing of key staff at NNSA tasked with maintaining our national security and safety of America’s nuclear weapons at home and abroad. @murray.senate.gov

My latest on Substack: Trump WH harassment of the Associated Press cannot stand. open.substack.com/pub/jimacost...

The irony of the richest man in the world almost single-handedly destroying an agency designed to help the world’s poor, so that the U.S. federal budget has more room for another giant tax cut for the richest man in the world and his pals, should not be lost on anyone. [Cartoon by Mike Luckovich]

I’m having great difficulty right now seeing how our political system doesn’t devolve into violence.

The community note 🤌😘

The greatest political scandal today is not what Trump is doing. It is the fact that congressional Republicans have given up their role in the constitutional system as a check on the executive branch. If we are in a constitutional crisis, it is as much on Mike Johnson and John Thune as anyone else.

I like that he posted a picture of a print-out of the email.
