Feisty little dudes. I'm almost used to calling them Curruca instead of Sylvia now. Scratchy songs, angry fire eyes, good colour schemes, but lose a point for being a bit too skulking = 8/10 #birdart #birds

I only get to see two of them often, but making this illustration has been like a journey around the Mediterranean through hundreds of online photos. Trying to distill the differences between the species into one image of each has sometimes been frustrating but I feel I know them a lot better now.
This is your illustration? This is fantastic! I don't get to see any of them regularly, but I have seen some of them in the past. I'm trying to fill in names, but also afraid I've forgotten a couple! Anyway, love this!
I thought that but I was won round by finding that Curruca is the Spanish vernacular and it seems more apt. Sylvia is a graceful wood sprite. Curruca is an angry ball of feathers scolding you as it bounces round a bush. It’s almost onomatopoeia if you say it with the second u short.
