Whatever deal with US should anyway be in accordance with EU. Advantages are that when EU is involved negotiations take more time, EU gets leverage towards US and Ukraine gets better/quicker position in EU

I think that was his idea. However, Ukrainians are smart, they may think of something. There is always an option to sign a deal, but require parliament ratification for example. And reject it in the parliament. Or even require a referendum, which constitutionally can only happen once war is over.

Trump wants to collect 'back rent' and the rent has to be paid now for the next decades.
