Biden's biggest critics on gaza end up looking totally vindicated. These are not the actions of someone who was simply constrained by electoral considerations
This sucks. Hard to see this cruelty and make it fit the rest of Joe’s demeanor. He comes across as caring - except on this matter. Maybe it’s all Palestinian Black September in his eyes?
He’s a true believer. Thought it was more cynicism at first but I think a lot of democrats over 50 just really view themselves as soldiers in Israel’s holy war or something.
He sort of did. Biden needlessly prolonging Israel's genocide allowed Trump to run on ending it. I have no illusions that Trump will rein Israel in (the opposite really), but overseeing a genocide is electoral (and moral) poison
I really don't see what part of repeatedly saying "finish the job" to Netanyahu is "pro-peace." More an example of media bending over backwards to create a narrative than anything he actually promised.
Also, if genocide is actually electoral poison, then any candidate that doesn't believe in climate change should immediately lose in a landslide. However, they do not.
I think voters just don't like seeing videos of rubble and bombs being dropped on the news and will vote for whomever promises to stop it. Same with Ukraine. Stopping it is just code for sacrificing Palestinians and Ukrainians but the media doesn't care
Yeah his pro-peace credentials is just the media sanewashing his imminent capitulation to Putin and Netanyahu. But Biden should never had allowed Gaza to remain a salient issue by not smacking Israel down way earlier
The issue with Trump is that he says such a jumble of nonsense that casual and motivated observers can infer his position is whatever they want it to be even if careful observers can see what his core beliefs, priorities, and political connections are.
He didn't, but a huge portion of his appeal was built by the network of right wing hosts and podcasters, and Biden left plenty of room for a faction of those to portray trump as the peace candidate, and the viewers predisposed to that faction bought it.
since when have any of those people ever let any sort of truth get in the way. Biden could have ended the war in a week and the right-wing media environment would say that Trump would never have let it happen in the first place
Yeah this wasn't what cost Harris the election, more an example of the many unforced errors Biden gifted the Trump campaign (Garland as AG being another example)
It's sad that his big sell to voters at the end was his management of foreign policy given how both Ukraine and especially Gaza became slow-moving disasters while his administration dithered.
What was he proactive on? Even the pullout from Afghanistan started under Trump.
You mean like the republican House Speaker Mike Johnson working so hard to silence the student protests of Israel’s mass genocide of the Palestinian people. trump’s support of Netanyahu. Republicans calling anyone trying to get help for the Palestinian people antisemitists, Hamas terrorist.
You mean the religious right’s idea that Israel must be saved or the world will be destroyed? Not because of the Jewish people in Israel but because of the Christians in Israel. Do you know how hard that makes it for America to take negative action against Israel, an ally. The pushback from
the right is tremendous. You have Biden trying to push Netanyahu to a ceasefire and to allow humanitarian aid in while the Republican Congress and trump are encouraging Netanyahu and the American public that Israel’s mass genocide is justifiable. And the author of this article is promoting the same.
