Thank you (I have!) that’s our equivalent to the BCP so I have a book copy of it but I find it difficult to navigate the lectionary

That’s fair - I can use a lectionary but I also sometimes use the CofE Daily Prayer app for ease. It covers our modern language services (Common Worship) and the 1662 BCP. The lectionaries for each differ but it adjusts accordingly.

It’s free and well executed. And there is a built in audio option for the modern liturgy offices. Nothing to lose, really.

I’ve had success with the app mentioned above, using our “traditional” 1962 🇨🇦 BCP (based on the 1662 with revisions in accord w 1908/1948 Lambeth Confs)

I’ve actually enjoyed learning about all this history having grown up with both the 1962 BCP and the “modern” BAS

I’ll take this to mean I should not keep looking for a digital guide 😅 This is in reply to the app for the 1962 BCP so it seemed like a reasonable question to enquire about an app for the BAS especially considering the recent release of the Pray Without Ceasing resource 🤷 I will wait for my book 👍🏻

Venite is an app that gives you a customizable BCP '79 Daily Office, with the choice of Rite I or II and which Bible translation you want to use. I like it a lot. Speaking of which-- *goes to light candles*

I was hoping to find a resource aligned with the prayer book most Canadian congregations use (BAS) but after a long deep dive into prayer book history I’ve come to understand why it doesn’t exist. I’ll be giving both the Episcopal and CofE versions a try. Thank you ☺️

I would also posit: people who identify as “alternative” and never saw themselves reflected in liturgy until the BAS came along, probably get more excited about “Alternative Services” than people who are big fans of the 1962… 🤷

I think what he’s saying there needs to be certain level of interest to justify maintaining up to date resources for a prayer book no longer in use. Whereas the current one has money behind it and is available to wide range of people in different formats as it’s used by lots of people.

I guess what I’m trying to express is that the BAS was always supposed to be a temporary solution on the way to wholesale liturgical reform in the Anglican Church of Canada. Somewhere along the line, the idea of a new Book of Common Prayer for a new time was abandoned.

Pray how you can, not how you can’t! I hope the book on its way is a blessing to you. I’ve ended up with a ‘toolbox’ of ways to pray and rotate between them.

To be honest, there is such a proliferation of options/choices you have to make for BAS daily prayer that I'm not even sure how you'd manage to make an app of it. I definitely don't know of any such resource...the 1962 BCP one is the only Canadian one I know if.

Fair. Thanks for the reply. The more I learn about the BAS the less I find it suited for daily prayer. I had success with the Prayer Book Sociey app and a 1962 pdf. The deeper I dig into this the more I appreciate the 1962 lectionary anyways 🤷

Yeah -- I'm a Prayer Book guy for a variety of reasons, but I think it's *totally* possible to have a revised/contemporary language/etc. daily prayer liturgy that is usable. The Episcopal Church's is pretty good. The new Pray Without Ceasing has advantages too. But the BAS just...isn't that imo.

I had -no- idea the BAS was so different until I met enthusiastic daily prayer Episcopals here on Bluesky and couldn’t figure out how to participate 😅
