Many Mihoyo fans believe that simply leaving the recording studio, Formosa, will give the striking Mihoyo actors everything they're asking for

A simple twitter search of the word "Formosa" shows how varied and widely believed this imagined idea is

There is zero actual evidence of any of this, btw.

First of all, regarding Formosa: I won't go into any details, but I've heard of behavior from them for many years now that I wouldn't just consider "anti-union," but full-on "anti-ACTOR."

If you're frustrated with them, I'm certainly not going to leap to their defense.

Guys. MiHoYo owns these projects. They're in complete control over what studio they hire to produce the English versions. They're in complete control over whether they use a union contract or not.

These are THEIR games.

Here's my take: I think they learned something back when they first started working with Formosa on Genshin, long before it released and became a global phenomenon.

They learned, "Wow! There are a lot of talented actors who are willing to work for us non-union!"

The non-union rates cost them approximately 1/3rd of what they'd spend on union recording sessions.

They don't have to give the union oversight to make sure actors are being treated properly/paid fairly.

They don't need to hire a special payroll company to make sure the actors are paid correctly.

I mean, they have been trying to get all voice actors switched from Formosa but have had to wait until the contracts end. I would guess it is an issue with Formosa not willing to sign any kind of interim thing

It's honestly sad because I worked with them this past summer and they seemed like lovely people. I was excited to finally work on the first non-indie game of my career. I spoke with the director over the phone. I never would have guessed ANY of this a few months ago.

what sucks is that from what I can tell at least, a good chunk of the non-EN Genshin playerbase doesn't even give a shit if the EN dub slowly disappears like this, that and I feel like my daily reminders for people to donate/spread awareness to support the strike falls on deaf ears (1/2)

I play Genshin regularly and it's sad to see the game in such a state, I loved Natlan's story arc but it definitely suffered with some characters (especially Aether/Lumine) not being voiced in it, I'm hoping that MiHoYo gives the EN cast the good treatment they rightfully deserve ASAP (2/2)
