I’m catching up on Halifax’s Transportation Standing Committee meeting from earlier today and Trish Purdy asking Gerus pointedly if BRT is really all that great, and him answering “it’s the reason I’m here” was just perfect comedic timing. 👩🍳😘

Honestly HFX needs a light rail line. Something along the west end of the basin to the peninsula and maybe even a little though old Dartmouth to the ferry terminal.
There’s been lots of talk about commuter rail from Bedford/Sackville (and potentially beyond) using the existing CN rail cut, but so far CN won’t play ball. An East-West light rail line from Dartmouth to downtown to the Halifax mainland would get even more use, but someone needs to fund it.
The city’s plan right now is a phased approach with LRT replacing the BRT bus lanes eventually. But the province is doing its own study. Transit upgrades are desperately needed.
