I've never had the eggnog sold in grocery stores. My mother made it with raw eggs. Separate the yolks and beat them separately. Whip the whites until they form stiff peaks. Add bourbon or vanilla extract to the yolks, then bold the eggs and whites together. Sprinkle nutmeg on top.

If you like creamy and a hint of cinnamon, it's heavenly. If the thickness is off-putting, you can add milk to thin it down. Dilutes the flavor a bit but it's a good way to try it without triggering texture issues.
