Yes, everyone is correct. They're not advocating for a "strict meritocracy." Affirmative action is over. They're now suing over the very presence of Black people and Latinos in elite education and white collar careers. They're advocating for resegregation. Call it out every time.

Just imagine if as much rage were as directed at the Republicans for what the Republicans are doing as there is at the Democrats for what the Republicans are doing.

Might I suggest now being a good time to rethink your LA Times subscription.

Former Secretary of Transportation--who was not on The Real World or Road Rules--weighs in on the President's efforts to blame the fatal air traffic accident on DEI.

I just wanna point out that it wouldn’t be hysterical or dramatic or a stretch or biased in any way for major news orgs to state plainly that a president who immediately blames all of the country’s ills, including a random plane crash, on “diversity” is a white supremacist

Pretty big deal. @bookshop-org.bsky.social is selling ebooks now. You can now support indies while purchasing digital books. bookshop.org/ebooks

We’re lifting permitting requirements, speeding rebuilding, and helping survivors recover from the LA firestorms. My office will ensure that red tape and bureaucracy will not hinder the quick recovery of these incredible communities. www.gov.ca.gov/2025/01/24/h...

TRUTH: The massive fire that destroyed Altadena was not a “forest fire.” The fire had nothing to do with forest management or water policy. Three main reasons the fire exploded: 1. Drought-like conditions 2. Very low relative humidity 3. Santa Ana winds reaching 100 mph (Video by Stuart Palley)

Folks, let’s give President @JoeBiden his flowers. He’s been one of the most accomplished presidents I’ve seen in my lifetime. ✅ Created over 16 million jobs ✅ Lowest average unemployment rate of any administration in 50 years ✅ Brought manufacturing back to America through the CHIPS and Science Act

Today, I signed an executive order prohibiting greedy land developers from ripping off LA wildfire victims with unsolicited, undervalued offers to buy their destroyed property. Make no mistake — this is a prosecutable crime.

Good point!

My Congressman is pulling no punches about Republicans trying to withhold aid to California. We’re the economic engine of the United States. If we falter, so does the rest of the country. #CA46

California massively subsidizes other states with our tax dollars. We do so because we are one country. For Republicans to now single California out with unprecedented conditions on disaster aid — as Los Angeles burns — is deeply despicable.

In my time in Congress, I've never considered disaster relief based on how a state voted. When people need help, we get them help. Period. That cannot and should not change.

Really interesting and illuminating thread

IATSE Local 80 in Burbank is open every day this week from 8AM to 5PM and is loaded with emergency supplies.

As dangerous winds are expected to pick up, we’re prepositioning hundreds of firefighting personnel and equipment across SoCal. This includes deploying 300+ additional firefighters, adding to the 15,000+ already on the ground in LA.

The news is saying over the next 48 hours, our winds are going to kick back up to 70mph gusts. Those gusts are too strong and will end up grounding the planes and helicopters that are so effective at dropping water and retardant. Please pray for Los Angeles and all the brave firefighters.

The Altadena seed library needs all of the help it can get- if you have native plant seeds to share, please make sure they find their way to this group. Monetary donations are also hugely welcome via gofund.me/6643efc6

Air by us looks & smells ok, but I have bad lungs & feel it outside, even with a mask. Hope we're all masking outdoors right now & staying in as much as possible

It's disgusting that the Governor of California has to dedicate time and effort toward fighting back against Trump's egregious lies about the LA wildfires. Here's where you can get the facts. Gavin New some is not fucking around. gavinnewsom.com/california-f...

Everyone is talking about the Palisades Fire. Not nearly enough is being discussed about the victims of the Eaton Fire. It's a middle class community and a lot of people inherited their homes. They may not be able to build back and investors may sweep in and gentrify their community. It's tragic.

FEMA provides short-term housing assistance and funds to buy essentials. After filing an initial insurance claim, Los Angeles wildfires victims should apply for FEMA aid via: 🌐 disasterassistance.gov OR ca.gov/LAfires 📱 The FEMA Mobile App ☎️ 1 (800) 621-3362

This thread, motherfuckers.

If your first thought isn’t “how can I help?” or “this is horrible and tragic,” but instead “how can I blame the Mayor of LA and the Governor of CA?” Congratulations, you’re awful.

the all but official position of the republican party is that voting for democrats disqualifies you from federal disaster assistance

Everything about Zuckerberg makes sense when you remember he started his product and ascent with a misogynistic website to rank girls’ hotness

As MAGA lunatics continue to stupidly blame Democratic officials in California for causing Wildfires, a reminder that 44 fascist republicans in Congress voted against funding for Forest MGMT Wildfire Prevention which lets states create barriers to stop the spread of fires.

She was truly a nasty piece of work & added greatly to the suffering during the AIDs years

Important advice!

President Biden: “The federal government will pay for 100% of costs for several LA wildfire relief efforts for 180 days… things like debris and hazard material removal, temporary shelters, first responders' salaries, all necessary measures…”

No one blaming Governor Newsom or Mayor Bass should be taken seriously. The Santa Ana winds basically turned Los Angeles and the surrounding area into a goddamn fire hurricane that was sucking up & ejecting embers at winds up to 90-100 mph. NO ONE & NOTHING could have stopped this.

Victims of the Pacific Palisades fire face another harsh reality: No insurance to rebuild.

Wisdom from his many years.

You will read countless times today that the LA mayor cut the LA Fire Department's budget by $23 million. That is a lie. The budget was actually *increased* by $50 million.

For SoCal friends, Here is a list of resources for shelter, animal boarding, free items, and distribution hubs. These places can also use donations (e.g., food, water, masks, and blankets). Please consider donating if you can. For more info, visit Instagram: mutualaidla
