Hi Iain, thanks this is very useful- Im currently working on a Horizon Europe project called ENPOWER with 6 Renewable Energy Community Pilot sites around Europe- also researching Positive Energy Districts as part of the Swiss SWEET-CoSi project, where community energy is also important!
Thanks Iain! PEDs are urban districts which produce more energy renewably than they consume on a yearly basis. They are also characterized by high energy efficiency and some degree of energy flexibility
They are meant to be guided by principles of sustainability, maintaining quality of life, and affordability (with energy poverty in mind). The EU SET plan 3.2 planned the creation of 100 such districts by 2025
There is quite a bit of research on the topic- including such gems as (blowing my own trumpet!) focusing on the social aspects of these districts https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apenergy.2022.119477
Yep, I set up community sustainability charity Greener & Cleaner and we give energy (renewables and efficiency) advice / talks etc at our perm Community Hub pilot in The Glades, Bromley and also Collab with community energy co.s like SELCE
This is great, thanks! I am working in community led housing and climate impact / life cycle assessement. If that's in scope, happy to join you! @martinroeck.bsky.social
Hi Iaian, thanks for putting this list together! Although it is not my core focus, I occasionally work on community energy (mainly around shared solar PV) and would be happy to join the conversation :)
