I genuinely mean this with some measure of confusion- what about the US history and current government is saying to folks that keeping one in the car would be useful to any Black person atm?

Do yall mean like as a lucky talisman type of way? Or as a historic momento after they change it?

Unless you’re saying that having one won’t keep you from getting arrested, being treated unfairly, or being imprisoned without due process - then, yeah. I don’t think it ever has. But depending on your job, it can be helpful to have one on you.

I study literacy education and critical literacy, so it can be helpful to reference when I write/teach about civil liberties. Before this I taught American Lit, rhetoric, and composition - also helpful to have then. I also have a sister who is a lawyer - helpful for arguing the law…

Right- was an educator and used it from time to time as a reference point, but there’s nothing I do/nothing it does for me to warrant needing it at constant hand when I’m on the A train, but I wanted to ask if I was overlooking something just in case.

Oh, I merely suggested my car because it is my primary mode of transportation - and keeping it there will make sure it’s both at work and at home.

I don’t see the reasoning for having one in my car simply bc I don’t write arguments there- my momentos and historical things are kept under lock and key for me; hence my question. Thanks for clearing that up for me ✨
