I don't know if you've see the other stories in this franchise but the impression I get is that they do seem to diversify /how/ these triangles form. That's what I try to emphasize when I think about Macross 7 in this particular context.

This triangle is still better than the Delta one that was so forced, they pulled it out of the movie version entirely, lol.
