The trouble is, if i you try stuffing it all in the video, you lose a lot of people. So for the few who care, I try to keep more in a blog post / GitHub issue.

I really hope someday there will be a good yt alternative for tech, science and history. But I only watch content on the big screen. YT nested itself into many TVs and media boxes.

Yeah it's not ideal to have that paywall—but I also don't expect anyone to join, it's more of an escape hatch / place where I can have my entire video library running in parallel to YouTube.

I sub to LTT on floatplane for the exclusive content. The problem with their payment model, is that it is hard for the consumer to scale. If there was an "all-you-can-eat" model, I would love to spend $20/mo, but I can't justify spending $5/mo on every creator I would watch on the platform

From watching some of the WAN shows I think Luke has mentioned that the cut the service takes is the cost to actually run it (staff, storage, bandwidth, etc) plus a small margin as they are fully self sufficient unlike say YouTube that gets funded by other parts of Alphabet.

That's why I follow my parasocial friend and not a platform. The older I get, the more valuable my time is, so if someone is worth watching, it should be worth following everywhere I am! I do not watch algo content (rss, yt sub page, newsletter, etc) and it feel much better.

Why not use something like https://peertube.tv! I supposed you might have to host it yourself or you can join an instance.. Not to sure of it feels much like Mastadon for videos.

Veronica Explains is another youtuber I think uses it as well
