Good point. People assume because they have attained certain basic rights they will always have them. It just takes a repressive & rogue government to strip citizens of everything. Even their right to vote & protest.
Apparently this is not true. A friend of mine lived there at this time. Iran before the mullah regime was a very normal country and of course women could go out and wear whatever they wanted.
There was a very specific group of women in societies such as Afghanistan who lived somewhat free lives, were able to go to university, dress somewhat freely, work etc etc. This was not, by any means, the life of women in villages, and towns outside the capital.
Amnesty don't even believe people are discriminated against because they are female, they believe it is because they identify as women and girls, as per that article. Not a credible organisation anymore.
It wasn’t. These were hugely tribal conservative societies where fathers, brothers, and husbands forced their wives and daughters to do what they were told.
It is Iran. But it's a complex topic because they also lived under a brutal dictator who was propped up by the united states in exchange for repping our interests in the middle east and letting us exploit the country's resources.
