this is the key to understanding the Median Voter CEO dynamic -- because Trump was barely prevented from doing insane things by his cabinet again and again, they finally concluded there was no risk of Trump doing insane things rather than that surrounding Trump with empowered advisors was crucial

Behind the adults factor, there is also the issue that people have a tough time reading Trump’s Jacksonian / zero sum foreign policy. So many people saw it as dovish when in reality it’s *more* hawkish and zero sum but also less reluctant to get involved for global public goods.

What drives me especially crazy is the fact that even by his own statements, he's only "anti-war" in the sense that he thinks the US can throw its weight around and get whatever it demands without other countries fighting back. He's openly in favor of dishing it out, just not in taking it.
