Yeah morons. I also saw a piece on sky news this morning promoting dictatorship and strong leaders. I guess they are getting ready to suck up to king nazi trump.
most just aren’t interested - not just younger people. I find politics fascinating and terrifying in equal measure and I can’t understand how my friends are so disengaged
Christ, we’re all fucked if they really believe that. Mind you, I’ve heard people in their fifties say much the same thing: “we need a benevolent dictator.” They say it with a straight face, not even realising it’s a fucking oxymoron.
I want to be delusional and believe that it was just gen Z being trolls. Because I don’t want to believe they actually want that. Let me be delulu. 😭 I hate it here.
Your countries IDIOTIC youth will usher in the same democracy destroying regime that is currently bringing the US to it knees and destroying the financial lives of our citizens.
Mitchell is a smug, condescending shit, dripping in privaledge from private school to Cambridge and beyond.
He has never said anything of any political value, and has nothing to offer Gen Z beyond being an example of establishment hubris that thinks he knows best.
GenZ follow online World of game players treating them as major celebs. Likewise make up applying! Music vids.
Attention span of not trending online is major problem.
Turn histories Dictator's into 'Bad' guys online - in gaming/doing make up could be an answer?! 🤔
You don't need to be a liberal to hate dictators. Historically, they've been opposed by liberals and conservatives alike. Even libertarians are sometimes intelligent enough to realise the danger of dictators.
Concretely, Liberals in the US have no answer to the Trump/Musk coup. In the end Liberals, despite their belief that Capitalism leads to democracy and freedom are totally at sea when the Monopolists take over the Government. All we get is lame outrage ....like your man here.
Switch the router off or change the password. Cancel their phone contract.
When they start to complain tell them you're showing them what authoritarianism feels like.
Maybe he could consider alternative options, like who are they supposed to vote for? Which of the current main political parties is run for the benefit of 20 year olds or their future? They are devoid of hope along with many of their parents.
This is the educational dumbing down that led to Trump. An ignorant and uninformed electorate not paying attention is hardly in the position to make rational choices when it comes to governance.
Political education. We have about 50% going to university. But my son (a graduate) says most of his friends get their politics from TikTok. That is the problem. The right have mastered TikTok .
As a visiting lecuturer (retired) i watched decade by decade levels of education plummet. As a student there were certain books doing the rounds which most read, Gormenghast, Thomas Mann, The Bhagavad Gita, this all appears to have stopped. The examination papers are now all multiple choice.
Would that not depend on the course people were studying? I wouldn’t expect a mathematician to be reading those books. I’m a philosophy and English lit. graduate but I’ve not read any of those. I’m 61 for reference. My son recently completed a business degree and wrote a dissertation.
To be fair, the concept of a digital, benign dictator isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'd even say it's inevitable.
Gen Z have grown up symbiotically attached to the internet as both have grown up. I think that's significant.
Depends on whether you believe in hell.
I agree with what you say, but i think the keyword was "digital". An AI which carries out the process of civil management governance in the same way as Ai can drive a car. Democracy and frequent referenda to capture the zeitgeist to guide legislation etc...
This is not something that exists in real life so it's a hypothetical on the same level as "if a perfect angel baby of God that has never done anything wrong becomes king would you need a parliament"
I'm talking about the inevitable integration on some level of AI and governance. That isn't a hypothetical in the same level as your example at all. Ai is real, gods, as far as we know, are not.
I can completely understand Mitchell’s point, but I can also see where this generation is coming from, in their lifetimes they haven’t seen any real meaningful change come from democratic politics.
They’re wrong and wouldn’t enjoy authoritarianism but they’re not really enjoying what they have now

The United Kingdom especially risks having an Islamic dictator soon!
