Most of the people on my list, if not all, never voted for Trump: that's the point. I'm interested in hearing people who may have conservative views, but who are reasonable and open to different perspectives. (Which, in my view, means either never voting for Trump or sincerely repenting.)
In general, I'm not going to agree with them, but listening and trying to understand are core values for me, even if it's hard to find voices on the other side worth listening to these days. YMMV and I also completely respect any progressive/liberal who just can't right now.
But you would accept Dalinar after the rift? Teft? Most of Bridge 4? Jahsnah? Elokar? Lirin?Venli? Is there no room for remorse, reflection and redemption to you? Just saying, everyone has a history. People who admit and learn from their mistakes and biases are worthy of listening to.
Well, I used to be a Republican. Sanderson was one of the authors who helped me be more introspective and frankly, remorseful for having ever voted for a Republican -although I NEVER supported Trump.
Comey doesn’t deserve this honor. Comey, McConnell & B. Barr put this nation in this dark hole of anti-truth, anti-Justice & anti-science. I wanted to believe in JC. His wife is a returnd peace corps vol like me. I wanted to believe he would see the light. But he stood in line. Too little-too late.
I will try this one 💯. Can I also be ON it or do you have to be American for that? When I tried to learn politics in 2019, I fell in a group of far-righters. Then it was hard to climb out of the hole, but I did it yay 💐🎄.
As someone that was raised conservative (and still has some foot in that door despite having only voted liberal), this is a fascinating list! I honestly love nothing more than having civil discourse with someone open, objective, and intellectual on the other side of the aisle. Absolutely will follow
Ha. What's funny is I was just debating with my father yesterday (who is full blown MAGA) that despite considering myself a liberal at this point, I probably fit the traditional conservative mold far more than he does today. The sad thing is nobody will vote for someone with values on both sides.
I consider myself pretty left leaning but I totally agree that the conservative right of 25 years ago is completely different than the conservative right today. My dad says it's the Tea Party that silently infiltrated the Republican party which led to the rampant Trumpism. Def worth some study
Yes, but I think the evil rot stems all the way back to Reagan: trickle down economics, tax cuts for the wealthy, ballooning national debt, and the elimination of the Fairness Doctrine, and a complete forgetting of the lessons of the robber barons and the Great Depression.
This is a good discussion topic but I think a far more nuanced one than simply saying "Reagan bad, Supply-side economics bad." The results were unquestionably mixed and while in the long run it may not have been beneficial, Reagan's plan was much like Obama's "spending us out of" the Great Recession

You don't get to do that kind of damage and then just throw up your hands like 'my bad guys'.
Some things you just can't truly 'reform' from your life. Voting trump is one of those.
Like murdering a child, you can't come back from that.
