I have some sort of innate sense that I don’t like rye. I can’t remember ever having it though, so I think I’ll grab some this weekend and give it a try.
Buckwheat bread with walnuts (or even pecans) is soooo good! You should try it, if you haven’t already. It’s does not pair with everything, but goes well with cheese or cured meats. It’s good enough to be eaten on it’s own, though.
I don’t think I’ve ever had Pumpernickel bread before. I’ll have to find a place that makes some good quality bread to try it out. (Im not too confident in my baking skills just yet)
(I actually mean this seriously: if we get a break from arguing with right-wing trolls we can talk about other, much more interesting things; it’s wild that “diversity of thought” only means fascists and no-fascists to these people)
As someone who lives just outside of Boston and has had many clam and corn chowders... it depends on the type. The type of corn chowder I recommend is nearly the same recipe minus the clams/seafood. And it's CHOWDA, Frenchy.
I'll admit, I am nothing more than a visitor. My sister did live there for a few years and I visited a couple of times, but my definition of clam and corn CHOWDA are vastly different, and I consider clam superior, or rather souperior. I don't claim clam chowder is the best, but it is polarizing.
Good choice indeed. A nice sourdough is pretty good with anything thick and hardy, dry french breads with anything thinner and brothy, but I like a fresh cheesy bun with Avgolemono Soup, or creamy soups in general.
Oh, see thems fightin' woids...I hate caraway seeds. I almost missed my Halloween because I was told to not leave the table until I ate my dark rye with dreaded caraway seeds. I didn't eat it, and snuck out. So...hard pass on the caraway... 😆
I live for seeded rye but if I’making a sandwich it’s gotta be wheat with oats. Rye for me is better for grilled cheese and toasted stuffs. If I’m gonna stuff my face with bread it’s gonna be cornbread.

So delicious and it goes so well with a lot of different soups. 😋
Or a Jamaican pumpkin soup. Mmmm.
Sourdough though is the best bread.
But we really do need sandwiches to go with the soup.
Wait… I’m proving you right, aren’t I??

Or sometimes crusty French or Italian bread...!!
And since it is dark it would also be more visually appealing with a whitish soup, imo.
See, this is no echo chamber! We have a variety of opinions on rye bread!
But cheddar jalapeno cornbread goes with so many soups. :)
Do not be lead astray by these simpletons who believe they know what a chowder is.
