I call them religious atheists or extremists. Like all extremists they can't contemplate their approach might not suit all. I'm agnostic because I live with likelihoods but not knows. I admit a little envy for the religious of any faith - it might be reassuring to believe.

I understand that there's an effort to soften the religious roots of AA but this is just playing with semantics. If a rock is a higher power, then what's the point of the step?

I worry about it because believing fake narratives while it can be useful in the short term, builds castles in the sky.

Its basing your continued sobriety on an external factor that is made of sand.

But my goal was not to dive into my many problems and history with AA. 😊

Yes. The point is that you have to give them something to move on. I told my sponsors they didn't have to tell me who their higher power was I did not ask them for it. for me I know I didn't create the universe and that's enough.

I remember about 20 years ago a friend was having a crisis of faith; and thanks to my JW indoctrination I could talk him through it. When he asked, "aren't you an atheist?" another friend piped in, "He knows what he disagrees with." I don't want people to become atheists out of anger.

In my case anything I do out of anger is a mistake. it means I haven't taken time to think it through and I'm just reacting... not a good look for me at least

I'm trying to explain to my mom that just because I don't believe in God, it doesn't mean I don't believe in doing good. If anything it makes that belief stronger. There's no devil to blame and no God coming to save others, so I have to do good and be good. And sometimes anger is righteous.

Righteous anger is not for me, it gets me into trouble because I'm right so seldom. The problem for me is opening my mouth; I always get in trouble when I do... that has nothing to do with God has to do with my lack of Restraint.
