I appreciate this breakdown of the GOP obsession with privatization and its roots.
I like to think that in an alternative universe we are seriously considering nationalizing Space X, Starlink and Twitter, rather than privatizing government payment systems, immigration enforcement and prisons.

Thanks so much! And agreed, the unfortunate reality of privatization and austerity means programs that should be run at the federal level are delegated to private entities, to the detriment of the country as a whole.

Absolutely. So many people do not understand why market forces simply will not and cannot deliver certain public goods and that is part of why we have government. Also that the market is not moral and cannot embody a value like inalienable rights, so we need non-market mechanisms to ensure these.
