Can someone who knows about the legal system explain what will happen to Luigi next? Where will he go? When will the trial be and will we be able to watch?

After he is interviewed extensively (hopefully with a lawyer present), the DA will determine if there is enough evidence pointing to him being the shooter, then decide whether or not to charge him with the crime (likely). Then he’ll be formally arrested and arraigned. Trial prob next year.
If it's in NY there is limited cameras in the courtroom (think Trump/stormy trial). I could see this moved into federal court tho if there's some federal charge or crime (maybe assassination-related). If federal only courtroom illustrations.
He’ll get sent back to New York where the shooting occurred. They have jurisdiction. New York’s procedures laws determine the trial and as we know you can delay delay delay if you have enough money. New York’s procedures law also dictate whether you can watch. Judge blocked media from Trump trial
He’ll have an extradition hearing. Then he’ll be arranged in NYC. After that , it’ll be a while before the croak starts. I’d say a year.
But take into account that this wasn’t some rando , he is a millionaire. His family is very wealthy. He will have the best lawyers money can buy.
Murder is a state crime unless he crossed state lines then it can become a federal case. My guess is he'll be tried in the state of New York unless the FBI takes over the case even then it could be in NY, and New York does not allow cameras in their courtrooms, so we may not see the trial televised
He just saw a federal judge, things talked about were likely the charges against him, his rights to a speedy trial, a lawyer ect. The next step is him sitting in jail/prison waiting for extradition to New York. If he moves for a speedy trial, 70 days is from request to trial.
The extradition hearing will result in an order of extradition
Typically signed by the Governor of Pennsylvania to send him to manhattan where the hey will hold a probable cause hearing within 72 hours. They set bail at that point 2/
He has been arrested. He should be held in Altoona jail for an extradition warrant. That usually has to happen within 72 hours or they have to release him unless the local police charge him with a local gun crime. The extradition warrant has a hearing to determine identity and impossiblity 1/
extradition to NY is all we really know right now. no reasonable way to speculate about trial timing. big complex case = tons of discovery = lots of pretrial filings = gonna be a while. cameras in the courtroom TBD by presiding judge.
scratch part of that, NY State bans cameras in court for most proceedings. judge's have some discretion but it can't include any witness testimony. probably will be closed to avoid the circus anyway.
You should be more concerned about yourself at this point. Authorities will investigate your possible connection to this case given your social media ties with the suspect. You could be charged as an accessory if the evidence warrants it and receive the same sentence as the perpetrator if convicted.
Contact Bob and Ali Motta of the Defense Diaries podcast and YouTube channel. They’re longtime defense attorneys who do a great job of helping people understand the system and their rights. Bob still on Twitter. Give him a holler. He and Ali are fantastic.
They’ll likely forego the prelim hearing and tack the gun charge on later. The murder charge is more serious and will take precedent, so he’ll get sent back to NY quickly.
Judging by the intellectual quality of the replies, I don't think any of your followers are going to have answers. Most lawyers don't live in their Mom's basement.
someone quick! call johnny depp's lawyers to find some insane legal loophole to get this tried in a random virginia court that'll let it be livestreamed!!!
Taylor, sorry to threadjack but what is wrong with Eric Adams? So he facetimed with the cop who caught Luigi, telling him he will be the most popular cop in town. And then he posted the video on Twitter like he's taking a victory lap. Video in skeet https://bsky.app/profile/shaynaa.bsky.social/post/3lcwci5nbmk2m
If he doesn't plead, it could take awhile to get to trial because it's so high profile.
The jury selection/trial will probably be a shitshow.
Finding a jury will go about as well as it did for Martin Shrekli (google jury comments for a laugh).
He'll probably go to prison, not sure for how long.
He'll be charged with murder and a few other charges in the next couple of days. He'll have an arraignment where he'll likely be held without bail. Appointed a PD and then not much happens for a while as the police finish the investigation and lawyers start working through the evidence.
My guess is that they offer a plea that puts something on the table like the possibility of parole. A trial would be stupidly expensive. He might go to trial thinking he can get a jury nullification where they find him not guilty even if they believe he is guilty.
All else aside the President can only pardon federal crimes. Murder is usually charged under state law, though there are exceptions. You need the NY gov to pardon him!

He was volunteering at a soup kitchen with me on the night of the shooting.
Our legal system is fucking slow, who knows how long it will be until those jury summons start going out.
He’ll be held without bail, tried and likely convicted, serve 30 years.
He won’t answer your letters.

Apparently, there is strong support for a legislative solution but it keeps dying in a judiciary committee.
