Wasn't one of their hideous anti- Trans laws in the biscuit tin put forward by her? Hopefully Parliament staff can now burn it in front of her and give her an envelope with the ashes in it.
I like what Anna wrote here "Politicians seldom choose their words, nor the signal they wish to send, by accident. Maurice Williamson didn’t in 2013, and our current crop aren’t in 2024. "
"she believed she could “personally be of more service to New Zealanders"
Is this an admission we paid her for doing nothing? She should refund the taxpayers, after all, she is sitting in a govt who's leader said he will go line by line and make sure there's no money wasted.
It’s an admission her party, and the government they’re in coalition with, has her in parliament doing nothing. I might not like her or her party but it’s the government as a whole that is responsible, not the MP
Back-benchers are not meant to be idle, but it’s up to cabinet to make use of them.
More to be made doing a clean grift in the pvt sector ("I'm independent and untainted than being beholden to govt, I can really speak my mind and help you")
Also more room to push the more rabid anti-trans stuff and say it's a calling from God to do so (her reason for getting *into* Parliament)

But Jenny Marcroft of NZ First put in the 'Definitions of Woman and Man' bill to replace it.

A bit different to "spending more time with family"...
I wonder what's up?
