I only use flea products on my cats when I have to. However, last year there was a flea infestation in the house. I saw scratching a lot and so were both cats. Troy developed dermatitis and lost condition. I absolutely needed strong flea treatment for cats & house.

They are incidentally, not very good for your pets either. But every vet surgery is plastered with scary photos in adverts, saying what will happen if you don't use them. All nonsense. I don't use them on my animals unless I have good reason to believe they actually need them.

Yep, my cat got a horrific chemical burn on the back of his neck due to Frontline spot-on that has caused contact dermatitis that hasn't cleared up 8 months after it first happened. I contacted Frontline to discuss; all they said was it's a known side-effect.

My vet didn't even believe me when I said it was the flea treatment that did this - we wasted time and money with her theory that this was an allergic reaction to fleas. He didn't have fleas; it was an instant bad reaction to Frontline that happened *as soon as* the chemical was put on his skin.

It's also important to be aware of the health effects on humans of these chemicals too; there are known associations with these pesticides and neurological conditions in humans, like Parkinson's.
