someone needs to tell my grandmother that music is subjective and that just because she doesn’t like an artist it doesn’t meant that artist is bad because i’m about to lose my mind.

I was this close 👌🏼 to writing on Facebook “if you’re over the age of 45 you don’t get an opinion on Kendrick Lamar halftime show unless you can name ONE song.”
Feels like the older someone is the more they dislike anything that’s not their preference
oh absolutely! she’s always like “we had such good music when i was younger” like??? we still have good music???? just because YOU don’t like it doesn’t mean it sucks????
Every time they complain about new stuff, I just say "then it's not for you, it's for young people."
"Well, back in MY day..."
I respond "Your parents loved it?"
Well, no, but...
Nobody wants to be obsolete, yet it happens. Or we stagnate and die of boredom.
Certain white people just like to be mad about rap. Like it's their whole personality, It's weird. I wasn't that familiar with Kendrick so I didn't know what to expect. But that shit was art. Like the entire package was just so different and cool. Amazing
My husband is black and I don’t think I’ve seen that man dance, rap, and sing as much as he did during halftime. The opening act with the marching band was also “black coded.” Assuming that means it was amazing and made for a black audience.
Agreed!!!! I mean I'm a big fan of staying current with what "the kids" are listening to even if it doesn't end up being my thing. And being a voice to the old farts in my life to open their rusty old hearts haha
In the most loving form- let it go. On the track of things we can disagree with, let this be one of them. Find a silver lining in this one to look back on and be laugh when they’re gone 🤍
I find myself awkwardly understanding though. I've always agreed with you but I remember being around a helluva lot more people like your grandma as a kid. Oh god, I'm getting old. Time is weird that way. I don't remember getting this old, just good times and bad. Do we really have to do this?

I love me some Glen Miller, but I don't want kids to be listening to "In The Mood" when they rise up in rebellion against our corporate masters.
I'm 70 years old and I ain't bitching!
