If you love it you will hunt them all down. Even Stigmata, and The Ice House. Nice enough tales of horror, but not a patch on The Signalman or A Warning to the Curious.

I don't know if you've watched any of Mark Gatiss' creepy BBC christmas specials. Crooked House particularly made me weak at the knees (and in fact had to switch it off and watch it in the daytime).

I've watched it many times since but one of my favourite nostalgia memories is watching this at Xmas with my family in the early 80s. I would have been about 10. It was the feeling being safe and cosy at home but also very creeped out. Perfect.

I have the BFI DVD boxset of the BBC Ghost Stories for Christmas for years now. It's a tradition to watch a few every Christmas. The Stalls of Barchester is my favourite from the series.

The first of the classic series I encountered was “A Warning to the Curious” which does an amazing job setting both atmosphere and gorgeous East Anglia landscapes to the task of scaring the **** out of you! #Nodiggin’ere
