hmm, after looking into it, “stainless steel” is apparently intended as “rust/corrosion/tarnish resistant”, due to the chromium in it, which makes it “stainless”. i sorta assumed it was that way because it was highly polished, but makes sense now why it’s become popular for avoiding tarnish & rust
