2005-10 was better. Big brother was still good. Obama hype. Continued Anti Iraq vibes. Weirdly that’s the most aligned I’ve been with my country and I was still fighting against the administration. Now, it feels less of a disagreement but a war
I have millennial acquaintances who have started receiving inheritances and gone from struggling to survive to being very comfortable overnight. Lots of millennials have aging parents who own property.
And a smaller number of kids in families means a concentration of that wealth.
Ngl, I think 2012 was peak, and then then the “12/21/2012” that the Aztec’s calendar had stopped at, was basically saying “that’s it, from here on out, we’re going back in time” type shit.
I’m ride or die that nothing has been real since David Bowie died, they shot Harambe, a weasel fell in the CERN hadron collider, and the Cubs won the series
In the 2010s, people were saying things were shit and that that they missed the 2000s though. Don't remember much about the 1990s, but it sounds like it was better than the 2000s in some ways.
I'm in my 40s and the late 90s to mid 00s were the best of times, from my POV. Everything seemed to be improving, most people were getting happier, healthier and wealthier.
well, technically yes. it’s the time most of almost-civilised countries finally accepted that giving rights to minorities is fine, the whole humanity thrived on that. this decade we see a huge decline in that regard and the result is obvious. I want to ask some people “is the gas now cheaper mf”
I highly agree on that, 2018 seems like the best year of culture we have ever had. the avengers, bts love yourself albums are just a few, I used to remember a lot of great cultural stuff that united so many people and accidentally all of that was near 2018 or exactly 2018
this comment section is fascinating because everyone is convinced the ‘golden age’ was when they were in their early to late twenties. ‘Same as it ever was’ -Talking Heads
It was peak ! Then by the next Summer Trump had got the nomination, Brexit, Clinton beat Sanders, the Pulse Nightclub shooting. Shit Trump posed with a pride flag at the RNC and even spoke to a strange homo nationalist defense of western social liberalism against Islamic reactionary conservatism.
Gay marriage got legalized the same day as Cincinnati Pride, Obergefell was grand Marshall, we all thought Hillary or Bernie would lead to a thousand years of sunny social progress and Trump’s campaign was just a punchline…
Caitlyn Jenner was on the cover of magazines, it was the “ Transgender moment” everyone under 30 spoke in Tumblr speak… we’ll never get back to that man.
I keep thinking that we probably don't really evolve. It's a flat circle of hell. Like a little kid playing with legos. Building it up, tearing it down. Rinse. Repeat.
I'm old skool, but the mid to late 90s was fun for me. Got me a grandson, a great job, great music, but the 2000's were fun too with the exception of 911WTC. Then after that it went to hell.🙁🙁🙁😡
Nostalgia is less helpful than focusing on solutions to the immediate challenge. Things are going to get worse before they get better, because everyone ignored the lessons of the 1972 Stockholm Convention recognizing threats to our global environment.

"Ha ha, the robots thought the 1990s was the peak."
Now: 😬
Anyone after that is just f****
And a smaller number of kids in families means a concentration of that wealth.
It's objectively been shit!
We're lucky we got a bit of a long stretch of good times. I don't think many other generations did.
But let's give future generations their stretch.
During cultural Ascentions, and at their peak, I bet we use 100% of the brain.
Everyone in charge since has failed us badly.
