My theory for why they want to get rid of the audio jack on everything is that it's extremely useful for piracy. Not everyone can hack audible to get the files for the audiobooks, but anyone can connect a tape recorder to the audio jack of their computer and hit record. Book on tape size # 1.

Sure you lose some audio quality by going analog but if you can still hear the words you're good to go. Plug it back into another computer and play the tape, while using software to record and you've got another audio file on the computer.
if they were concerned about piracy through the method you’re describing, they wouldn’t make audio jack adapters.
some phones even have the radio hardware already installed, for other markets, but no software to use it.
