I have cut off relations with a co-worker of 15 years, a brother in MS, a first cousin in St. Louis and many acquaintances who support the Repugnant Fascists. When still on fecebook, I discovered an old, close friend from the '70s was a MAGAt. 🙁 I don't understand it.

Not sure. I tried to agree to disagree with a friend on whether Merrick Garland caused Trump 2.0, but she was having none of it & then refused to have coffee with me. What kind of Civil War is this? Are we locked into our 1/2 doz. smaller camps? If we try to find nuance in ANY topic we are exiled?

That ship sailed. The me me me culture that began with Reagan has grown not waned. We haven't had a shared community view of the U.S. & the world for a long time now. Add the tribal (no shared) media of the last 2 decades, & the buzzsaw that Trump has taken to every political norm - and here we are.

So perfectly said. I am doing the same thing. Integrity and character mean too much to me. I cannot abide cruelty in any form. I'm seeing it way too often. I have no problem whatsoever cutting off those who exhibit these characteristics.

I’ve dumped all my friends and family who voted for him. I will be asking everyone I do business with if they voted for Trump BEFORE I enter into any agreements with them. I’m protecting my business and my personal life by not engaging with people who have impaired judgement and no moral compass.

It sure does happen. If you speak up for the vulnerable, it's OVER. I was silent for years, listening, not pushing back. Yet my ev. community/family is gone. How? I started standing up for "vermin" when my Christian friends viciously attacked them. My friends are now gone, & I won't go with them.

My husband and I have actually had conversations as to the necessity of ridding ourselves of toxic people - even if they are siblings, cousins, etc. One doesn't like or want to do this, but it's better for our mental health not to live in a state of perpetual emotional disruption caused by them.
