I hope that news coverage will learn to desist from what I see as a false alternative, "doctrinal purity" (RW coded) vs "missionary outreach" or the like

yes, making a fetish of doctrinal purity is bad
but Francis + Leo are doing doctrine/teaching

Too much coverage treats Francis as anti-doctrine as such

I think and hope there's some daylight between "treasury" of social teaching and "deposit" of faith, we'll see

I say this having overlapped in Hyde Park w Prevost/Leo in late 70s + 80s, was at U Chicago Div School + the UU theological school so not Catholic but did study w Catholic theologians
