Does anyone know what changed with the YouTube algorithm or monetization that led creators of shorter videos to start editing together three or five hours compilation videos?

Optimistically I would want to say; it's because people are attempting to make better content but quality doesn't = quantity. In fact it should be going the opposite way with the rise of AI slop and YouTube lowering it's monetization requirements. But truth be told. I don't have an solid answer
Yeah, but that wouldn't explain why, for example, a creator who's long made short video essays on film criticism would only recently have begun taking old videos and just knitting them end to end in big compilations
Well, it makes sense in the ASMR world, because the viewers fall asleep and the video keeps going, which is probably good for stats. One time I fell asleep to ASMR and woke up in the middle of a full length rip of Judgment at Nuremberg, which was great
