And then I'll be running around somewhere else with half my mental focus on the world around me and half on the icon because maybe there are other indicators all the time, even if there are none.

Thanks for the thoughts! I admit I was torn adding the indicator - as you say, exploration is part of playing games so I could just let the player learn through trial and error.
As I’m making a puzzle game, some solutions will require the player to jump down ledges and few early playtesters got stuck because they weren’t sure if a drop is safe.
