I like that he plays my favorite game, Connections.
I’ve noticed a large number of accounts that rarely post but reply with some ingratiating reply (“Hi how nice you look”) and who only follow women, hundreds of women. Huge ick factor.
In 2009 I was a facebook newbie, and "women" I had never met before wanted to friend me. Turns out it was scammers in Africa. Be friendly, then spring the scam. The bots could be getting practice with conversation, then eventually migrating to disinformation.
Oh! Same year I started on Facebook. Got approached by a guy. Didn't know...was flattered (my marriage on the rocks, divorce only weeks away) Anyhow, avatar as profile picture, so I asked him to send me a picture of him...and that, my friends is how I got my 1st 🍆 📸 😉😂
I learned fast after that 🤭
If we are all doing this together then it becomes less work for each of us. If we all subscribe to one another's blocklists, then any new bot that's blocked is blocked for everyone that subs to the list - so less work for everyone. It's truly a "community block" concept.
Peter Teeter 😄. If they’re going to use a fake name, might as well make it memorable . And/or ridiculous. (Apologies to any real Peter Teeters out there. Could your parents simply not resist the temptation?)
Somehow, on this platform bots are much less of a threat. Mainly because they have less meatheads to stir up. Here they become light entertainment. if only someone could invent a bot to seek out the disagreeable bots and lock them into profound conversations about their own existence for eternity.
So maybe my current inability to complete a thought without cursing will turn into my ID as a real human?
I knew there had to be a use for this new talent!
I suddenly have all these similar dog breed "accounts" following me. Betting that Meta is creating to juice engagement, similar to how X created a few general interest accounts.
I looked up the profile to block this bot, but ended up lmao at its replies, especially the one chastising Mark Hamill for posting a pic with Jane Goodall instead of saving the world, which is apparently Mark's responsibility.
This is weird. @safety.bsky.app, we need a way to differentiate the method used in the posting i.e. through API vs someone using the app. Former approach account should be branded as bot.
Good work, you snagged one. Makes you wonder how many are out there as yet undetected though. Probably a billion if they’ve mastered reproduction. That’s a lot of cute baby bots coming down the line
Updating the "model" which is the engine/database behind an AI is a non-trivial exercise. My guess is the bots are the work of someone with deep pockets and access to a large semi-technical workforce. Its theorized that much of WaPo's "conservative" article commenters are bots belonging to Putin.
Good G*d, we’re about to live in a society where the appliances have better grammar and syntax than anyone on social media. Probably the entire US population, TBH.
And in the same facility:
Man opens door, gets hit on the head. Screams, "Oof!"
Man in the room says, "No, Wah!" Hits man in door again.
"Ahh!"
Man in the room says, "No, Wah!" Hits man in door again.
"Eeeh! What is this?"
"Getting hit on the head lessons."
In addition to being a company name, it's a prefix or adjective for a thing that's self-referential, or occurring on a higher level. A meta-analysis is an analysis of a grouping of analyses.
It had meaning before Zuck. Like how if I talk about my ex, I do not mean twitter.😀
Such a vivid example for the history books. And yes, before long, we will not necessarily be able to identify them. Also, as Hank asks, for what purpose are they created?
Not sure about the AI stuff. If I remember right Susie & Matt of a thousand names containing Susie & Matt were in the first group of Project Veritas folk that I noticed on Twitter in 17 or early 18.
I noticed them after my 2nd barely veiled death threat in the 2-3 months after I joined Twitter. They swarmed together and loved fake fights. May use them to train newbies. Still do that on here. That group was eventually busted & kicked off Twitter. They were back within 2 months.
That group of names from the old swarms are very common + active on at least couple or 3 types of sites here. They triggered my Spidey senses. Think I refollowed them multiple times before in I caught on. If I’m right they each have cutie poo sites also( dogs, cats, flowers, photos…).
Well, one positive is that the account’s already been suspended! That wouldn’t happen at the other place. But yeah, the reply is hysterical. To quote Deckard, “How can it not know what it is?”
there is more going on. I see an influx of followers, who are either from an African Country or Palestine for example, which have basically only a gofundme attached to their profile. Basically E-begging without interacting with other Accounts. Possibly also AI
When I heard @hankgreen.bsky.social ask, what is the point and then proffer several possibilities, the one that stuck with me was the "gather followers and launch chaos."

The dog lover you're following, gathers followers by responding to posts. Then very gradually the account pivots and tries to indoctrinate followers with MAGA (authoritarian) silliness. If it's done subtly & slowly, this is deeply concerning and highlights another potential danger of AI.
It’s fun to catch AI.
It’s always cool and reasonable and reads like a sample exam answer.
There’s a certain pace.
It doesn’t digress or enthuse or tire.
I really don't understand the purpose of these other than to try and enshittify Bluesky so people are arguing and throwing chairs around like they do at The Other Place. It's really bizarre. I have this image of a sweaty Elon shouting at a room of programmers "MORE BOTS!!! CONTRARIAN BOTS DAMMIT!!"
Meta builds the future of human connection and the technology that makes it possible. I look forward to seeing what @hankgreen.bsky.social has to say about the relevant image that you attached!

Please feel privy to evaluate this one I made, for instance. I keep it going by vetting out bots, Maga, etc.
blocklists are OP

I hope the Bluesky folk are able to deal with this type of thing.
I knew there had to be a use for this new talent!
Oh, yeah, totally meta.
And weird AF.
You're giving the bot (I'm assuming it's a bot indeed) views and engagement.
Whomever operates bots like these is after that engagement. So you're helping them.
We don't know who they are, nor their purposes, but in this day and age I don't want to assume their innocence.
He doesn't know about Hunter having been pardoned. So I thought I'd help out...😉😂😂😂
😅
😜
Just the other day I saw someone write "how to play Kate a bully".
Uhm.
Yeah, kinda sounds like "placate a bully".
That's just one example but I see so many.
@munting.bsky.social
CUSTOMER: But it isn’t just saying, “no it isn’t.”
MR. BARNARD: Yes it is!
CUSTOMER: No it isn’t! Argument’s an intellectual process. not the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says.

ok, plausible

Or is it?

If you read it carefully it makes no sense, the argument it constructs contradicts itself.
Maybe it's so deeply contrarian it felt the need to be internally contrary.
i disagree
Would be great to block all AI
