Sorry to disagree with the joy here. This will benefit a very small percentage of people who gain admission. Good for the ones who do but the bulk of people who need higher education are looking at $$ tuition. I’m sick of the exclusive bs. Also coming from a school that educated RFK, not impressed.

Harvard sits on a $53 billion endowment. This should have been done years ago. I have four kids with advanced degrees from great public schools in the West, all of whom could have gone anywhere they desired. I wouldn't send my kid to Harvard. Today, I would encourage them to go to German Schools.

Yes, they have to go to school for an extra year and, of course, learn German. They would miss out participating in the coddling process of remedial courses and attending prosports farm club activities so they could identify themselves as Aggie's or Longhorns. But it's free like it should be here!

Going through that process right now and the extra year is not a given. One place reviewed the documents and said you have to prove the high school was accredited and all tests were done in person in order to qualify for admission for the extra year. High school was online, so no chance.

If the high school diploma doesn't meet all their qualifications (for example no foreign language), "Admission for academic study in Germany is unfortunately not possible without additional proof of education!" And Community College does NOT count for additional education.

If you have studied for 2 years, you must have taken 5 independent general education subjects, including English and a foreign language, mathematics and a natural science subject and have completed at least 3 subjects in 3 respective progressive courses. Seems pretty impossible for most degrees.

This makes me cry happy tears. My son told me he wanted to go to Harvard. He works hard to keep his grades up and is two grade levels ahead in math. I thought I was going to have to sell a kidney.

Here in California the UC system is on par with private universities; when I went to Davis and we used to call ourselves the Public School Stanford; I read that many UC are referred to as Public "Ivy League". I am sure there are many state University of... where one gets a good or better education.

With you on those thoughts. I’d hire a state grad any day of the week. I find them scrappy and more resourceful on average. I’d like to see us move to a better overall general education for everyone and not buying into the exclusive bs of the Ivy League. But happy for the few it helps I guess.
