In the late 80βs, I was offered the title role of Henry IV at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
I turned it down for one reason or another. It was played by a relatively unknown chap named Ralph Fiennes who went on to do such things as Schindlerβs List.
The rest, as they say, is history! π

Have you been ever offered a role that you regret turning down Reece?

Penny Downie played Margaret.
4 plays made into 3, 3hour plays, saw them on a Friday eve. Saturday matinee and Saturday evening.
Wouldnβt regret it as such, just part of lifeβs adventure
NB: Not to be a pedant (but I am, largely because I am a walking RSC database, just ask anyone): It was the other Henry, VI.
I thought Iβd put that. π€¦ββοΈ
(I had visions of you as Patrick Stewart as well, who I think was the only Henry IV of the 1980s at the RSC; either works, both went on to be ridiculously famous!)
Don't recall him working with John Thaw, so I reckon you had the better deal.
But life has sent you down a different path and fame is not all it's cracked up to be...trolls, bloody trolls!
Tried it once; Richard III at the Old Vic, with Kevin Spacey. Tiny seats, so I couldnβt stretch my legs, 3 hours of agony & I didnβt have a bloody Scooby as to what was going on!
Ralph who? π€£π

He said Johnson. What political character would you like to play the Johnson years? Do you think you could do Mogg or Farage?
It would be a great play.
