If only they’d given Shankly Yeats & St John to complete a team already featuring Law, Wilson & McHale
What a team we’d have had & we may have grown up supporting the team of the 60’s & 70’s
One of the old school players, tough, talented tenacious. Great player for Manchester United and one of Scotlands greatest players. No winging or rolling on the floor just got on with it. RIP. True legend of the game. And I watched a lot of football with my dad growing up. B/W TV in those days.
I used to hang around after Forest games to get a football signed by as many players as I could to raffle for charity. I remember getting Denis’, think he was working for the media then. His, and Bobby Moore’s were the ones I was most proud of.
Huddersfield came to the Goldstone in the Second Division in the late 50’s. Heard about their brilliant 18 year old. He was injured and couldn’t feature. Gutted. What a wonderful career, and fella.
I remember as a kid, watching him play for Man City in the early ‘70s. One of the few players who played for both Manchester clubs, and consequently was adored by fans of City & Utd alike. And coming so soon after the death this week of Man City’s beloved former captain and manager, Tony Book… 💔
My husband is ‘gutted’, the last of his football heroes has died. The trio of his heroes, Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and George Best (he’s got a photo of them in bedroom), will now be put in more prominent place on wall. Rest in peace, Heroes. 😢
First met him at Leeds Road when he dug the first sod on the new ground. Spoke to him for ages he was a true gent off the field and a terrier on the field got kicked he’d kick them back. Because I’m Scottish
I don't think there is a club he played for who isn't in mourning tonight - I am a City fan old enough to have seen him in his second spell with us - that back heel man he couldn't celebrate but it was a great instinctive finish because presented with a chance he couldn't not take it
As a huge Manchester United fan season ticket for 30 years
Never saw him play live.
But I used to see him in Marks and Spencer’s in handforth absolute gentleman.
I was told he used to get suspended over Christmas so he could spend the new year at home, I hope that is a true story, the king 🤴
I started going on the terraces aged 5 with my parents to WBA yay! They were a top team before big money made the league so uneven. Saw Dennis law live as we followed both home and whenever possible away games. Great players who never earned the ‘big bucks’
Two old gentlemen I socialise with in a remote Thai town, brothers who were both at the club the same time as DL and indeed Trevor Cherry, older bro was fantastic and may have made it but discovered ale and lasses at 17, younger wasn't good enough, but was annoyed with his bro ,Mr Shankly was boss
