The one good thing about it is that it provides a great excuse to use the wonderful word “gazump” outside of property transactions. As in: “Farage is gonna gazump them”/ “It’s an invitation to be gazumped”
"are you sure your not just a bit racist?" seems to be the only logical one, followed by a bit of "tax cuts*" *not actually a tax cut overall and finally back to BOATS!
"You are wrong to be horrified by what we've become and therefore we are no longer even remotely interested in your support - come and join us to shout at some refugees tomorrow or else"
There isn't one (silent cheers from 60+ LibDem MPs 😉).
And what's more the Tories can't even blame Reform for losing those seats as in many of them the LibDem vote was higher than Tory + Reform. NB: no pollster thinks 100% of Reform vote could go Tory, most estimate 1/3...
I am just a little sceptical that "We also wish to be a bought-and-paid for subsidiary of foreign billionaires" is an image the Conservatives really want to be presenting right now.
Especially since nobody should rely on promises from Musk until the money is already in your bank account.
It doesn't matter if he's unpopular, he can still have an outsized influence. Donald Trump isn't popular in the UK but he'll certainly be shaping events that impact here.
I think "the Southport riots were good" becoming a talking point on GB News and similar is evidence of how the conservative media bubble will end up totally disconnected from mainstream politics
One of the odder things about him is that e.g. he had a genuinely large fanbase of sorts here and elsewhere simply by being the eccentric chap with the electric cars and space rockets, but despite clearly longing for adulation never noticed it. It's gone now.
The British voter is so monumentally stupid that they think Churchill was their favourite prime minister, they glorify achievements in WWII, while also seeing the right-wing lurch across Europe as refreshing and positive. Thank god we don’t have freely available guns.
I find it increasingly ironic that average people who take voting advice from the wealthiest person in the world fail to grasp that his interests are literally the exact opposite of their best interest.
Is Labour just gonna like, let this Musk stuff happen? I get that you do have to pretend to like trump to an extend and that does include not being outright aggressive to musk but if you can shut down opponents getting an advantage that you will never enjoy, why not just do it?
On funding, isn't it that it's going to be complicated and needs working through, otherwise will just get round it? Like if you don't want to ban company donations altogether - which opens up a can of worms - then how are you ensuring you exclude ones like Musk will use but not others?
If reforming party funding from the ground up, then it's not something can roll out on the hop because a billionaire toddler has decided we're his next target.
Oh yeah, definitely. Just it's been like, what, a week since Musk made it clear he's going to actively do this and it became an urgent issue. Can we expect them to have something ready to roll out - or that are working out how best to respond and we'll prolly get some propoals in the new year.
Western mainstream politicians will not actively fight fascism because they are afraid of voters with fascist tendencies. It's why Biden did not urgently prosecute Trump after Jan 6th.
At this point Musk doesn't need to give them any money, if they block him from doing so it's a win for Farage and Musk saves his cash as it's about "the establishment" changing the rules to stop Reform rather than anything else
I can absolutely believe they'll let it happen because too many of them are weak and stupid (except when dealing with the designated Worst People In The World, ie anyone to the left of them)

- “Well no not ex-“
- “shhhh”
Which I haven't really been persuaded by, on reflection

Oh no
Just seeing Tice and Elmo dressed like blind wankers has tipped me over the edge…

"It’s a bold move Cotton, let’s see if it pays off.”
"If *I* was a multi-billionaire, I'd do lots of good with my money so I think that's what other rich buggers will do."
They fail to notice that you DO NOT become a multi-billionaire if your primary motivation is to do good.
