One thing about this galling op-ed from Bessent, he lays out this ‘deal’ as if the war in Ukraine is done, it’s freedom already guaranteed. It’s not and Zelenskyy’s one aim is to secure it. “That demonstrates our long-term commitment to a free and secure Ukraine” This does nothing of the sort.

Let's be clear: the idea that breakfast clubs would adequately mitigate the impact of the two-child limit is absolute bollocks. The average household hit by the two-child limit loses out on roughly £3,800 a year. They're not currently spending that on coco pops.

The government’s approach of “AI at all costs” continues to stagger me. I’ll admit I’m overly sceptical of AIs future positive impact, but it’s bonkers how those who do overstate it in govt are so willing to nuke creative industries, services industry, potential closer EU ties etc for magic beans.

All I keep thinking and hoping in the midst of extraordinary noise, is that Starmer, Macron, von der Leyen, Merz et al are all seeing the world as is and adjusting to that strategic reality. We are moving to a post-post-WWII world where liberal democracies must hold ground outside of Atlanticism.
