One thing I don't hear, if the EUs GDP is 9x that of Russia and Russia is spending 6% of it's GDP on the military why do we have to raise defence spending at all? Isn't it a case of just spending it more wisely and removing American dependency?
This will force EU to develop their own equipment and procedures over time and perhaps that's a good thing. The US has shown it can be unreliable politically and besides it's culture has become less like the EU.
I doubt Trump cares but this is so counter-productive.

No way, we need to make the missiles (and the barrel liners) ourselves to stop our enemies jarking them. However I understand that DPRK has a big 152mm shell production line, and is in need of hard currency...

Going forward the UK needs a defence industry and that includes steel making and tech.
