Sounds like Harvard wants credit for its slavery initiative, yet is afraid of its staff doing its work in a way that exceeds the narrowly circumscribed parameters it prefers, and possibly finding too many descendants of slaves. So it fired the staff that's pushing back against those narrow limits.
