There is a divide in the volunteer community between the shows that continue to book these "broken stair" guests vs events that just. Won't. We don't talk to eachother.

I am going to say something that will piss people off. But hey, that's my superpower. Genre is full of predators like this who manipulate and groom their friends just as much as they manipulate and groom their victims. Gaiman and his enabler Palmer are essentially stock characters in con spaces

And post-COVID, nonprofit events of all sizes are dying out. From massive burnout-related volunteer losses, yes, but more than that something in the *culture* of cons was lost in the turnover to this generation of fans.
The current attendee crowd for fan events is deeply entitled and critical.
It is exhausting.
I won't volunteer for fan focused events anymore because of it (vs industry focussed). I know other lifetime volunteers who feel similarly.
